At Room & Board, our part-time Design/Retail Sales Associate role (3 days a week, 8-hour shifts including weekends) offers an amazing way to balance your current life’s work with a fulfilling part-time career. You’ll be part of a high‑performing retail team in a showroom showcasing beautifully crafted, American‑made furnishings. As a member of our design‑focused sales team, you’ll deliver consultative, relationship‑driven service—using design expertise, technology, and tools to create personalized solutions that help customers bring their spaces to life. Our Pasadena showroom experiences varying traffic throughout the week; during busy periods, you’ll confidently support multiple customers while maintaining a high level of service, and during slower times, you’ll stay self‑motivated by following up with clients, advancing design work, and finding new ways to grow the business and your skills. In our non‑commissioned, employee-owned environment, your success is measured by customer satisfaction, collaboration, and overall business impact.

Store hours:

Monday – Saturday: 11 a.m. – 7 p.m.
Sunday: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Schedule:

To allow you to easily balance your other life priorities, we build out schedules for an entire month and release them a few weeks prior to the start of each month.

You will work a set schedule of Saturdays and Sundays, and one floating weekday. You’ll enjoy one weekend off every 4-5 weeks. The week in which you have the weekend off, your (2) weekend shifts will be scheduled during the week (Monday - Friday), so flexibility with your schedule is necessary.

• Energized by the high-paced customer traffic and the range of interactions throughout your shift. You bring the stamina – both physical and mental – to navigate both the busy pace of customer interactions and the productivity of your downtime. During slower times, you remain proactive and self-motivated, filling your day by clienteling, working on design projects, or finding other productive ways to contribute. You stay driven and engaged, making the most of every moment, whether busy or calm. 
• Confidence as a team player, with self-awareness and an ability to build successful relationships with an open mind and open heart.
• Focus on providing the right solution in a collaborative, non-commissioned selling environment as you guide customers through the creative design process.
• Confidence in navigating and leveraging technology/tools such as the iPad, floor planning software, and POS system to enhance the customer experience.
• Lifelong learner mindset, continuously seeking opportunities to build knowledge and hone your craft. 

Additional position requirements and qualifications as a Design / Retail Sales Associate:

• 2+ years of experience working in a customer-centric, fashion/design-savvy retail environment with a passion for design and engaging with customers on the showroom floor.
• You bring exceptional communication skills, demonstrated confidence, attention to detail, prioritization and organization skills, and a high level of comfort navigating technology and virtual resources. These attributes for success are captured in our Design Associate Profile.
• Ability to provide proof of identity and legal work authorization upon hire.

• Salary: $34,500 - $38,000 ($27.64 - $30.45 / hour) depending on experience.
